TitleA New Model for Spatial Practice – Commoning
Date24 February 2022, 18:00 – 19:30 GMTDescriptionNew Models invites practitioners across disciplines to discuss how their work can change the models around which society is organised.This talk builds on Prof. Jane Rendell’s conceptualisation of Spatial Practices as those that question and transform the social conditions of the sites within which they intervene using the emerging discourse of the commons.The commons had a resurgence in 2008 when Elinor Ostrom won the Nobel prize for her work entitled: Governing the Commons. Using selected projects from Public Works this talk will contextualise why the commons are both a contemporary framework for doing spatial projects and a political act to making emancipatory ‘cracks’ (Holloway, 2010) in the neoliberal capitalist system. The talk is structured in four parts: 1) contextualising the commons, 2) land as common space, 3) the production and mobilisation of the commons and 4) instituting and sustaining the commons.MCSD, Chartered Designer Dr Torange Khonsari, will also be speaking, her expertise on the commons has placed her as an expert adviser and a planetary care fellow for the Design Council.Image: Nobel prize winner Elinor Ostrom in Thamesmead. Phil creates intriguing works of art using old books and vintage objects. At Winterbourne, he is mounting his biggest exhibition yet. Over fifty works of art will be displayed, some in the brand new art gallery on the 2nd floor, and the rest integrated into Winterbourne’s room displays.

It aims to provide a creative hub to inspire and connect photographers internationally.
This exhibition showcases the award-winning and highly commended photos from this year’s awards, Global SinoPhoto Awards 2021, which were selected from almost 2,000 entries from around the world, including the UK. The photographs fall under four categories: ‘Home’, ‘Environment’, ‘Work & Play’ and ‘Water’, as 2022 is the Year of the Water-Tiger. The overall winning photo from last year’s awards – the inaugural year of GSPA – will also be on show.

The mission of the VDEF21 is to bring together industry, lecturers and students to discover new ways of working together, forging a curriculum that is more appropriate for this time. VDEF21 is a practitioner’s conference that seeks solutions that are immediately applicable for the betterment of Art and Design Education as a whole.

We are pleased to officially partner with the Design Intelligence Award (DIA) which was founded in 2015, hosted by China Academy of Art, co-organized by China Industrial Design Association and supported by Zhejiang province. It is China’s first international academy award in industrial design. The prize has been successfully held for three sessions and has grown rapidly. The participants have covered 52 countries and regions around the world, and have received the full support of experts from more than 20 countries. The total prize pool is as high as 5.95 million, with the highest award of 1 million yuan. It is currently one of the awards with highest prize in the world. The evaluation is divided into Preliminary Evaluation, Second Evaluation, Final Evaluation. We invite top professionals in design as jurors. 2019 Design Intelligence Award has been launched, the deadline of entry collection period is May 28. The category includes “Cultural Innovation, Living Applies, Industrial Equipment, Frontier Technology, Digital Interaction”, the fifth item is for software products such as APP, applet and so on. At the same time, DIA sets up “DIA Special Award-Design Yiwu”, which focuses on Stationery and Sporting Goods, toys, bags and luggage and other areas of innovative design.
