    Bryan Edmondson is a British graphic designer and founder of the renowned design consultancy SEA

    Bryan will be discussing the development of SEA over the last twenty years and sharing insights on a range of their work.

    Bryan is passionate about identity and typography which lead to the proud undertaking of an immense rebrand for the global type giants Monotype. This longstanding creative collaboration with them has helped launch the Pencil to Pixel installations in both London and New York, the Johnston 100 typeface and their London HQ with Ben Adams Architects in 2016.

    This conference will provide a timely opportunity to consider the future for the UK’s patent framework.

    It is being scheduled to bring out discussion on the long-term impact of the EU referendum on UK patent law – most notably in relation to the UK’s future involvement and interaction with the Unified Patent system and Unified Patent Court (UPC).

    Delegates will discuss key challenges and opportunities for UK patent policy post-Brexit, looking at next steps for developing the UK’s future attractiveness as a jurisdiction for cross-border disputes; options ahead for rights holders in seeking pan-European and international patent protection; as well as the future impact of the European Patent Convention on UK litigation, including the governance of standard essential patents.

    The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy wants to build an industrial strategy that addresses the long-term challenges facing the UK economy. Their aim is to improve living standards and economic growth by increasing productivity and driving growth across the UK.

    The Department has issued a Green Paper identifying 10 pillars that they believe to be important in driving forward an industrial strategy across the entire UK economy:

    1. Investing in science, research and innovation
    2. Developing skills
    3. Upgrading infrastructure
    4. Supporting businesses to start and grow
    5. Improving procurement
    6. Encouraging trade and inward investment
    7. Delivering affordable energy and clean growth
    8. Cultivating world-leading sectors
    9. Driving growth across the whole country
    10. Creating the right institutions to bring together sectors and places

    The Green Paper gives the design profession an opportunity to contribute to its success. It is important that the voice of design is heard. Please take a few minutes to read through the proposals and join in the discussion.
