CSD CEP Design Student Prize profiles: Ella Corry Assoc.CSD, Interior Architecture and Design

Each year, we honour graduating CSD CEP student designers worldwide through both in-person and online award ceremonies.

The CSD CEP Student Prize is awarded yearly to up to three design students from each CSD Accredited course, who have demonstrated great work throughout their course, recognising their talents and constant hard work.

As part of our celebrations, we are proud to feature Ella Corry Assoc.CSD, a talented recipient of a CSD CEP Student Prize from Nottingham Trent University. Join us as we delve into her passion for uncovering beauty in unexpected places and exploring the link between buildings and memories.

Tell us a little about your work:

Axo

My work is often inspired by unique geometric shapes derived from drawings, models and research. I enjoy layering these to capture ever-changing dynamic states, reflecting a sense of self and individuality through the chaos.

For my final year project, I explored the concept of imperfection at the site of Roche Abbey. The project examines how buildings and personal memories become distorted over time, with everyone seeing or remembering events differently. The idea that everyone’s brains are unique in this way drove my project, striving for connection and understanding.

What inspired you to become a designer?

Growing up, I always took to creative subjects, creating unique paintings, sculptures and photography. I found an interest in the abandoned and forgotten buildings – the importance they once held to someone yet left to ruin – and a desire to return them to life.

I am passionate about creating unique designs that transform spaces and perspectives. The challenge of uncovering hidden beauty and expressing it through my work drives me to make a meaningful impact on the world.

What does the award of the CEP Student Prize mean to you?

Being awarded the CEP Student Prize is a tremendous honour for me. It validates the hard work, dedication, and creativity I have put into my studies and projects.

This recognition from the Chartered Society of Designers not only boosts my confidence but also motivates me to continue pushing the boundaries in my design work. It shows that my efforts to find beauty in unexpected places and leave a meaningful impact have been acknowledged and appreciated. This award is a milestone in my journey as a designer, inspiring me to strive for even greater achievements in the future.

What’s next for you?

I’d like to continue designing unique and memorable interiors with a strong emphasis on sustainability and wellness. I am particularly passionate about repurposing disused buildings, transforming them into functional and inspiring spaces which contribute positively to the environment.
